Ecological reasons

by Alicia
(Toronto)

I have became a vegetarian a lot younger than people. In grade 7 I had an amazing teacher, and she opened our eyes to some of the atrocious offences of the meat industry. With unsustainable practices of the industry, the ecological impact of poor farming practices, and the unfortunate treatment of animals being raised, it is a surprise that more people aren’t opposed to the majority of this industry.

And there are some people in this industry who try to make the process better for all, but the industry and consumption of this industry as a whole is not sustainable. There needs to be a change in the way that we consume and process meat to help preserve our heart, animal health, and ecological health.

animal agriculture is the main cause of pollution

Animal agriculture is not only unethical, but it also wastes tons of water, causes land depletion, ocean dead zones, releases green house emissions, etc. It represents the unfair global food system, and highly contributes to global warming.

I'm a vegan and have been a vegetarian for about three years because I am concerned about carbon emissions, pollution, and my own health

It's been scientifically proven that veganism reduces one's carbon footprint from 3.3 (omnivore) to 1.3 (vegan). It saves animals from being raised in cramped, smelly, cruel environments and killed. It is also proven that humans were not meant to consume dairy beyond childhood and it is hard for us to digest. It leads to many health problems.
